JANE HODGSEN PARK

Public BBQ

Tucked away in Queanbeyan like a well-kept family secret, this neighbourhood gem proves that the best discoveries often come without fanfare. Named after a woman who apparently devoted herself tirelessly to the community, the park feels refreshingly unpretentious,no grand entrance, just quality facilities that actually work. The free barbecues are the real drawcard here, complemented by thoughtful shade structures and proper picnic tables that suggest someone understood what families actually need. The playground equipment forms a curious circle that seems to challenge even the most determined children, though the excellent views across the neighbourhood provide suitable distraction for supervising adults. Fair warning: there's no public toilet, which strikes me as the sort of oversight that separates good parks from great ones. You'll also find yourself wishing for a water fountain after a few minutes in the Australian sun. Still, for a community space that doubles as a geocaching destination and outdoor gym, it delivers genuine value without the pretence.
